The Velveteen Rabbit

This is a very hard book to find. It is far from my favorite, but I learned a lot in making it. I designed the stuffed toy, too.
The Care Bears and the New Baby
Written by Peggy Kahn and illustrated by Robert J. Blake
The artist that was supposed to do this broke her arm. They needed someone else to do it fast. So I got my second picture book job. Not the book I wanted to do, but I learned from it.
The Spiders Dance
Written by Joanne Ryder and illustrated by Robert J. Blake
I submitted the words and art for a picture book about spiders to Harper & Row publishers. The liked the art. They did not like the words. They asked if I would do the art if someone else wrote the text. Sure! So I got my second picture book job. Not the book I wanted to do, but I'm still proud of it.
